A study document on human sexuality due to be released in October by the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America will describe a wide range of views on the subject in hopes that it will encourage dialogue throughout the church.

The document, about 50 pages long, is being developed by the denomination’s Task Force on Human Sexuality, which is to present a proposed policy statement on sexuality to the 1993 Churchwide Assembly.

Although the document has not been made public, Anita Hill of St. Paul, Minn., co-chairwoman of the task force, said: “The document does not try to espouse a particular statement about sexuality at this point. The literary tool of ‘some voices say’ about a particular topic, ‘others say’ and ‘yet still others say’ has been employed in a number of places in the document.”
