Swartout Places 2nd in Junior Olympics

Ben Swartout of the Buena Swim Club finished second in the 800-meter freestyle in the National Junior Olympics West at the Mission Viejo International Swimming Complex on Friday.
Swartout, 17, was timed in 8 minutes 19.91 seconds, 2.5 seconds slower than Antony Brazzale of Fort Worth, Tex. Swartout, who finished 10th last year in 8:28.05, swam in a different heat than Brazzale. Both swimmers dominated their heats.
The performance by Swartout not only qualifies him for the Senior Nationals, Aug. 12-16 in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., it also qualifies him for the 1992 Olympic Trials.
The qualifying standard for both meets is 8:20.59.
