Share

A U.S. Border Patrol agent fired 15 rounds at a driver who escaped across the border into Mexico on Monday morning after reportedly ramming several Border Patrol vehicles, San Diego police said. It is not known whether the unidentified driver was hurt in the 7:55 a.m. incident, police said.

Border Patrol agents saw the vehicle entering a hole in a fence near Cactus Road and Cactus Court, police said. When the agents attempted to approach the vehicle, the driver accelerated, crashing head-on into a marked Border Patrol car, police said.

Another agent had to back up to avoid being struck by the driver, who then drove east on Siempre Viva Road, police said. Still another agent heard about the chase and tried to help, but his vehicle stalled. As the agent left his stalled vehicle, the driver swerved toward him, trying to run him down, police said.
