Fillmore Unified School District officials will meet today and Thursday to interview candidates for principal of Fillmore Senior High.

A committee of parents, teachers, administrators, staff members and the student body president will interview seven candidates chosen from about 20 applicants, Acting Supt. Bob Kernen said.

The district hopes to announce the new principal by Aug. 16, Kernen said.

Former Principal Jamie Castellanos left after three years to become principal of Buena High School in Ventura, where he lives.

Depending on the new principal’s experience, the Fillmore High position will pay $55,000 to $64,000 for a 225-day school year, district officials said.

The candidates include a counselor and a director of child welfare; five are assistant principals, Kernen said.

Names of the applicants were not released, but Kernen said three women and four men were being considered.

After the interviews, the committee will recommend the top three candidates to incoming Supt. David Haney, who will make the final selection in consultation with the school board, Kernen said.

Fillmore schools have been in session since July 31, with Assistant Principal Lynn Johnson acting as temporary principal.
