SIMI VALLEY : City Seeks Funds to Design Rail Station

Share

Simi Valley has applied for $206,000 in state funds to design a commuter rail station that is set to begin service to Los Angeles in October, 1992, a city official said.

The funds would pay for design of the station platform, lighting, grading and access roads, said Brian Gabler, assistant to the city manager.

The city is negotiating with Southern Pacific Railroad and two other property owners to buy a station site large enough to accommodate 500 parked cars and a 450-foot-long boarding platform.

The station would be between Sycamore Drive and Stearns Street on Los Angeles Avenue, Gabler said.

The city already has allocated $2.5 million to pay for the land and station construction. The commuter route begins in Moorpark, stops in Simi Valley and the San Fernando Valley and ends at Union Station in downtown Los Angeles.

Trains will run four times in the morning and four times in the evening. Times of service have not been set.
