A Texas grand jury decided against indicting Mike Stone, former president of the Texas Rangers, in the fatal shooting of an intruder.

Stone told police he shot Jenice Miller, 47, once in the neck after she walked up a flight of stairs to the bedroom of his West Ft. Worth home May 10. He said the woman broke into his home about 5 a.m. through French doors at the rear of the house.

Stone said he was awakened by a noise and saw the doors were open when he looked out his bedroom window. He got his .38-caliber handgun and shouted through the closed bedroom door for the intruder to leave. When he saw someone through a glass panel in the door, he fired once, he said.

Police said the woman lived a few blocks away in an apartment complex and was linked to a break-in several hours earlier.
