Passport Cost to Increase: The government said the cost of a 10-year U.S. passport is being raised to $55, a $20 boost. A five-year passport will go up to $30 from $20. The State Department said the increase was largely because of a rise in labor and material costs and “the need to produce a more tamper-proof and secure document.” The increase takes effect Nov. 1. Travelers can beat the increase by purchasing passports before then.
