Share

The U.S. Postal Service Board of Governors on Friday authorized spending up to $15.8 million to buy a 25-acre parcel in Aliso Viejo for the site of a massive new mail sorting center, a postal official said.

Pat Brown, an operations analyst for the Postal Service, said the actual purchase price has yet to be negotiated, but is expected to be somewhat less than the amount authorized at Friday’s board meeting in Washington. Earlier, postal officials had said they expected to spend about $12 million for the parcel.

The property is in the Pacific Park commercial and industrial development owned by the Mission Viejo Co. The land is south of Pacific Park Drive, east of Wood Canyon Drive and about 3.5 miles west of Interstate 5.
