A SPECIAL REPORT: WILDLIFE

COLLIDING WORLDS: As bulldozers turn Orange County’s canyons into a sea of red-tile roofs, critters and urbanites collide. Through this June, 205 people had reported seeing coyotes, compared to 116 the half-year before. One or two mountain lions are sighted each month. . . . All of which didn’t sit well with a Los Angeles couple who were set to buy a Cowan Heights house until they learned their new neighbors would be raccoons and coyotes. . . . “They loved the house, but they decided they were not going to move into the wilderness, so they canceled their escrow,” said Lt. Kevin Whelan of county animal control.
