Nielsen Downscales: Nielsen Media Research is reducing its estimate of the number of U.S. households with televisions by 1 million because analysts concluded the prior estimates had been overstated, a spokesman said Monday. Last season, there were an estimated 93.1 million households, but that is being reduced by 1 million for the coming season after a review of data from the 1990 census. Later this month, the estimated number of TV households will drop to 92.1 million, by coincidence the same number used during the 1989-90 TV season.
