A Poway man accused of being the “B.O. Bandit”--a bank robber known for his noticeable body odor--pleaded not guilty Monday to three bank robbery charges.

Robert Harper Norris, 45, denied being involved in the three holdups, at two banks in San Diego and one in Escondido.

Norris is accused of the July 29 holdup of the Bank of America, 415 W. Felicia Lane, Escondido, in which $2,300 was taken. Two San Diego Trust & Savings Bank branches in San Diego were robbed June 11 and June 18, with $1,500 taken from each.

Although a federal grand jury indicted Norris last week, he could face more bank robbery charges.

The “B.O. Bandit” series, as it was dubbed by the FBI, is believed to include bank robberies in Rancho Bernardo, San Marcos, Oceanside, Rancho Penasquitos, Scripps Ranch, La Jolla and Kearny Mesa.

When asked if Norris might be charged with more holdups, Assistant U.S. Atty. Tim Coughlin said, “That has yet to be determined.”

U.S. District Judge Rudi Brewster ordered Norris to return to court Sept. 16. Norris remains in Metropolitan Correctional Center on $200,000 bail.
