NATION IN BRIEF : NEW YORK : Gotti Allegedly Once Targeted Jail-Mate

Reputed Mafia boss John Gotti is in the same New York jail with an alleged hit man whom he once ordered killed, prosecutors said in papers urging that Gotti be held without bail. Gotti is facing murder and racketeering charges in Brooklyn. The contract on Thomas Pitera, 36, reportedly was frustrated when he was arrested in June, 1990, by U.S. drug agents. Gotti reportedly feared Pitera would become a government informant.
