Driver of Truck in Which 8 Died Was Drunk
A driver killed in a highway collision along with seven young passengers had a blood-alcohol level double the legal limit, the California Highway Patrol said Monday.
Test results showed 21-year-old Bryan Sherman of Oakley had a blood-alcohol level of 0.16% at the time of the accident, said CHP spokesman C. W. Hubbs. Drivers with a blood-alcohol level of 0.08% are presumed drunk under California law.
Tests results on the other seven people killed in the accident are expected to take at least another week, Hubbs said.
Sherman and his passengers, aged 15 to 21, died early Saturday when the pickup truck they were in crossed the divider line and smashed into an oncoming truck.
