From Times Staff and Wire Reports

A man accused of kidnaping and slaying a homeless 10-year-old girl has told investigators that he killed more than 60 people in a 10-year rampage across the country, a Biloxi, Miss., newspaper reported. Fred Lusk, court-appointed attorney for Donald Leroy Evans, told the Sun Herald that the count could go higher, but investigators “have what we believe is all he can recall in detail at the present time.” If Evans’ claims prove true, it would make him responsible for more murders than any known serial killer to date. Lusk said that according to Evans the death toll included men, but he said that most of the victims were women, many of whom were sexually assaulted.
