California IN BRIEF : SAN FRANCISCO : Accord Reached on Abortion Protests
Under pressure from a federal judge, Operation Rescue and Planned Parenthood have signed an agreement requiring anti-abortion protesters to stay 15 feet away from a Daly City clinic and refrain from blocking patients. Against a backdrop of abortion clashes at clinics and courtrooms in Wichita, Kan., U.S. District Judge Stanley Weigel said the two foes had taken advantage of “a unique opportunity to demonstrate recognition of the right to disagree vigorously but peacefully.” But representatives of the militant anti-abortion group cautioned against reading too much into the agreement.
