Midler on Duty: Bette Midler gets double billing at the fifth annual “Commitment to Life” benefit for AIDS Project Los Angeles Sept. 15 at the Universal Amphitheatre. Midler, one of the evening’s honorees, also will be performing in the show that Joe Layton will direct. Other celebrity performers are to be announced shortly. Midler, MCA chief Sidney Sheinberg, producer-manager Barry Krost and Dr. Joel Weisman, who has been at the forefront of AIDS research, will receive awards for their efforts in battling discrimination and disease.
