The Media and ‘Outing’

Share

The real subject of outing has never been homosexuality, it’s hypocrisy and deceit. If you’re a public official and you’re a dishonest hypocrite--in this case a closeted gay man aiding and abetting the military’s ongoing persecution of gays and lesbians--you run the risk of being exposed. It’s an occupational hazard.

What’s truly sad is that The Times is apparently still so convinced that being gay is dirty and shameful that you will not print the man’s name, even though you regularly print the names of people who are accused of things which truly are immoral. That is what’s truly shameful.
