Rating Agencies Downgrade Some Insurers: Duff & Phelps said it lowered the senior debt rating of Aetna Life & Casualty to double-A-plus from triple-A. It also assigned a claims paying ability rating of triple-A to the Aetna Casualty & Surety Co and Standard Fire Insurance Co. intercompany pools and gave a double-A-plus rating to the claims paying ability of Aetna Life Insurance Co. Moody’s Investors Service said it downgraded the insurance financial strength rating of Northwestern National Life Insurance Co. and State Mutual Life Assurance Co. of America as well as the commercial paper rating for Washington Square Capital.
