WORLD IN BRIEF : CANADA : 4 U.S. Marines Charged With Rape

A Quebec court charged four U.S. Marines with sexually assaulting a 12-year-old girl on the Canadian province’s most famous battlefield. The court ordered the Marines, who were stationed aboard the warship Guam, to remain in jail until their bail hearing set for Friday, the Canadian Press agency reported. The Marines were based at Camp Le Jeune in North Carolina. Quebec police arrested the four just before their ship set sail Saturday. The girl reported that she was assaulted Friday night on the Plains of Abraham, where French forces were defeated by the British in 1759.
