Nation IN BRIEF : WASHINGTON, D.C. : Thomas Opposed by Women’s Lobby
The National Women’s Law Center said it opposes Judge Clarence Thomas for the Supreme Court because his record “shows no commitment to core constitutional or statutory protections for women.” Marcia Greenberger, co-president of the group, told reporters: “As far as we’re concerned, Judge Thomas is not the best person or even the best man for the job.” She released a 77-page report criticizing Thomas’ views on, among other things, privacy--the basis of the high court’s 1973 decision that abortion must be a legal option.
