CALIFORNIA IN BRIEF : MANTECA : News Ends 14 Years of Publication
The Manteca News has ended nearly 14 years of publication, citing financial losses and uncertainties about the future of a proposed joint publishing venture with the larger Manteca Bulletin. “We gave it our best try, but it wasn’t to be,” publisher Antone Raymus said in a front-page farewell article headlined, “Thank you, Manteca.” Raymus said the paper, which is distributed free on Wednesdays and publishes a paid-circulation edition on Fridays, lost money “year after year.” The end of the News means the loss of about 40 jobs, said Lori Kelley Tubbs, advertising director at the News.
