A Seal Beach man who was operating his boat erratically near an oil platform has been arrested on suspicion of boating while drunk, authorities said.

Darcy Malloy, 34, was arrested by Coast Guard officers and taken to the Metro Federal Detention Center in Los Angeles on Thursday after Coast Guard officers saw his 26-foot cabin cruiser near an oil platform called Edith, a Coast Guard spokesman. The platform is off Orange County’s north border.

Officers from the Coast Guard’s cutter Point Evans boarded Malloy’s vessel and administered a field sobriety and breath tests, which Malloy failed, officials said.

The other occupant could not operate the cabin cruiser, so the vessel was towed to a Coast Guard mooring in San Pedro.

Malloy was released Friday on his own recognizance and is scheduled in appear in court next week, said Coast Guard Lt. John Davis.
