Robert Herman, 66, general manager of the Greater Miami Opera who turned that company from a small, regional troupe into one of the biggest, most diverse companies in the nation. A native of Glendale and son of former Brooklyn Dodgers outfielder Floyd (Babe) Herman, Robert Herman went to Miami after serving as an assistant to Sir Rudolf Bing at the Metropolitan Opera from 1953 to 1973.
