Man Found Dead in Car After Reporting Beating

A 51-year-old San Diego man was found dead Monday in a car outside his mother’s house, police said.

Stephen Clark Engelhorn was discovered by his mother at 12:20 p.m. in the 600 block of Pennsylvania Avenue, about 45 minutes after she had brought him a meal, Lt. Dan Berglund said.

Engelhorn had told his girlfriend that he had been beaten by several men, after she found him about 6:30 a.m. in the 2000 block of Meade Avenue, near his house on Florida Street, Berglund said.

She drove him to his mother’s house, let his mother know what had happened, and left him in the car before taking another vehicle to work, Berglund said.

Engelhorn reportedly did not want to go inside his mother’s house and stayed in the car, Berglund said.
