Young Musicians Orchestra Names Christopher Russell as Conductor


Christopher Russell has been named musical director/conductor of the Pasadena Young Musicians Orchestra for the 1991/92 season. He succeeds Allen Robert Gross, who is now conductor of the Santa Monica Symphony Orchestra.

Russell served as conductor of the Music Ensemble at Indiana University and conductor of the University String Orchestra. He has also served as assistant conductor of the California Chamber Players.

The Young Musicians, a nonprofit organization, is open by audition to San Gabriel Valley musicians in grades 10 through junior college.


Karen Powers has been appointed assistant general manager of the Walnut Valley Water District. Powers, who has 23 years of experience in public agency water utilities, joined the district in 1988.

The district has 25,000 service connections and serves Walnut, Diamond Bar and portions of the City of Industry, West Covina, Pomona and Rowland Heights.

Kim M. Mar, a Monterey Park businessman, has donated $5,000 to the Monterey Park Firefighters Assn. Burn Relay fund-raiser.

His donation brings to $10,000 the amount raised so far by the department for the Alisa Ann Ruch California Burn Foundation. The statewide project has involved 450 fire departments.
