Battles Rage Against Rate Hikes, New Fees, Assessments and Taxes

We are baffled! We don’t understand the few people in Placentia and Yorba Linda who are threatening the recall of some of the Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District trustees (“Placentia-Yorba Linda Trustees Rescind Fee,” Aug. 10).
We attended the school board meetings last spring where district officials were told by countless citizens to do whatever they could to maintain the excellent educational programs and facilities of our schools and not to reduce staff even with huge budget cuts looming. The school district officials listened. They said they would do all they could to keep Placentia-Yorba Linda schools superior.
The district officials found a way to raise sorely needed income for the district, took a courageous stand and voted to assess $17 per parcel within the school district, which would have brought in substantial funds to the district.
People vehemently expressed their opposition to the assessment.
Once again the school board listened to its constituents and reversed its action.
We want our representatives to listen to us! They did. Now a very few people are still mad and are threatening recall. Why? A recall would force the school district to hold an election which would cost the school district about $67,000! That money must be spent on the education of future voters of our great nation--not on petty vindictiveness.
