Eight rare guns were stolen from a museum at William S. Hart Park in Newhall, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said Saturday.

Deputies noticed the guns were missing at about 5:45 a.m. while responding to a museum burglar alarm at 24151 San Fernando Road near Newhall Avenue, Sheriff’s Sgt. Dave Taplin said.

The guns, which were taken from a gun cabinet, were described as “irreplaceable” by museum staff, Taplin said.

Although the dollar loss was set at $15,000, the guns would be practically impossible to replace, Taplin said. One of the guns taken was a .38-caliber Colt Army special revolver with the name “Bill Hart,” the museum’s namesake, engraved in the deer antler-shaped grip.

“These are some nice guns,” said Taplin, adding that a more complete list of the missing firearms would be available next week.
