Bo Jackson, who many believed would never play again, will return to the major leagues on Monday night and start for the White Sox against Kansas City, the team that gave up on him this spring.

“I’ve waited eight months. A lot of people never thought I could come back. Even if I strike out four times, everybody will know Bo is back,” he said after Chicago’s 10-5 victory over the Cleveland Indians on Saturday night.

Jackson spent the past week on a rehabilitation program with White Sox farm clubs in Sarasota, Fla., and Birmingham, Ala., testing the left hip he hurt last January in an NFL playoff game for the Raiders. He went six for 19, all singles, at double-A Birmingham.

Jackson will be activated from the disabled list Monday and be Chicago’s designated hitter that night against Kansas City pitcher Luis Aquino. He said getting revenge against the Royals was not on his mind.

“Why should I seek vengeance against my former teammates?” Jackson said. “I had a lot of good moments over there. Just because it’s my first game against Kansas City, it would be no different than if I was playing against the Cleveland Indians.”

Dwight Gooden underwent additional tests on Saturday designed to determine if he will pitch again this season. “I’ve been told not to say anything until Monday,” the New York Mets’ right-hander told The New York Times. . . . San Diego outfielder Tony Gwynn had his left knee drained Saturday and received a cortisone shot, procedures which will keep him out of action for at least two more games.
