Owners Bear Guilt in Dog Death

Share

While I sympathize with the Reiferts’ tragedy, the loss of their dog (reported Aug. 24), I also blame them.

Had Rosy been on a leash, as required by law, she would have been with them and not “ahead, out of view” and a potential threat to anyone. More than once I have come across unleashed dogs while I was walking in nearby parks, often with my children. Moments later owners come by, leash in hand, to assure me that the dog “is friendly.”

This is after my children and I stand terrified of a large and sometimes growling dog.

We have leash laws. If they were obeyed, accidents such as Rosy’s death would be avoided.

The Reiferts are guilty of the cruelty in this case, not Warren Eggar.
