6-Year Term Is Plenty

I don’t know John McWherter personally and have no feelings about his conduct as a council member for the city of Ventura. But I do applaud his decision to retire after 17 years on the council.
I think it would be a wonderful idea if all elected officials as well as city managers, public works directors, planning directors, policy chiefs, etc., were limited to no more than six years in office. This would provide enough time for individuals to contribute the most they have to offer before complacency sets in and the old servant syndrome of “it’s them against us” emerges.
