Man Shot in Drive-By Attack
A 19-year-old man was seriously wounded in a drive-by shooting in El Rio Monday night when the occupant of a passing car fired a number of shots at him while he was standing alone in the 2500 block of Balboa Street, said Ventura County Sheriff’s Lt. Gary Backman.
The man, who was not identified, was taken by ambulance to St. John’s Regional Medical Center in Oxnard after the 9:16 p.m. shooting, Backman said.
At 10 p.m., physicians were taking X-rays looking for as many as four bullets in his chest and abdomen, said Sue Crews, a nursing supervisor.
“He is still awake, so that is a real good sign,” Crews said.
Authorities said they had no additional information as of late Monday night.
