OJAI : Deputy Hurt When Patrol Car Crashes
A Ventura County sheriff’s deputy was injured early Monday morning when his patrol car ran off California 33 at Woodland Avenue near Ojai, demolishing the vehicle.
A preliminary investigation by the California Highway Patrol indicates “that the deputy may have fallen asleep, drifted off the road and struck a tree” at 3:45 a.m.
Treated and released at Ojai Valley Hospital for a separated shoulder, strained neck and cuts and bruises was Deputy Scott Horton, 30, who has been assigned to the sheriff’s Ojai station for two years. Horton was discovered in a “semiconscious” state by a person who notified authorities, the CHP said.
Lt. Ken Kipp, chief of the Ojai station, said Horton does not remember how the accident occurred.
