Santa Monica : Ocean Park Watch Slated

Share

An organizational meeting for a Neighborhood Watch program in the Ocean Park area of Santa Monica will take place tonight at 7 at the Ocean Park library branch.

The plan to organize the crime prevention units stemmed from a warning by a police officer to resident Helen Kolikow Garber that she should not walk in her neighborhood at night. The nine-year Ocean Park resident said she opted to organize rather than leave the neighborhood, the charm of which is enhanced by its closeness to Main Street and the beach.

A representative of the Santa Monica police will attend the meeting to explain crime prevention techniques to residents of the 2600 blocks of 2nd and 3rd streets and the 200 blocks of Beach and Hill streets. With those blocks as a nucleus, organizers hope to expand the citizen programs to all sections of Ocean Park.
