OXNARD : Transient Killed Crossing Rail Tracks
A 48-year-old man was killed Thursday when he was hit by a train while walking across the tracks in Oxnard.
Police said Fred Romero, a transient, had been walking west on Vineyard Avenue about 6:30 a.m. and tried to cross the tracks just west of St. Mary’s Drive when he was hit by the train.
Romero was taken to St. John’s Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. Police said they are continuing to investigate the incident.
