In a trial scheduled to begin today, a U.S. District Court jury is to decide whether evangelist Tony Alamo threatened to kidnap a federal judge or just engaged in some overheated religious rhetoric. Federal prosecutors say the flamboyant evangelist made telephone calls in which he threatened to kidnap U.S. District Judge Morris Arnold of Ft. Smith, Ark., so that the judge could go on “trial” before Alamo. The evangelist was angered at losing $50-million worth of property as the result of a decision by Arnold.
