HUNTINGTON BEACH : Walnut Avenue Will Gain a Pacific View

Share

The City Council this week agreed to rename a new extension of Walnut Avenue, but backed away from a proposal to change the name of the entire street.

A new section of Walnut Avenue, which runs from 1st Street to Beach Boulevard through the Waterfront development, will be called Pacific View Avenue. That name was requested by Waterfront developers, who believe it will better suit the image they hope their resort will portray.

The council originally considered the proposal last month, but delayed it because Councilman Don MacAllister had requested that the entire length of Walnut Avenue be renamed Pacific View Avenue. MacAllister said the street should not have two different names.

His proposal, however, drew criticism from Jerry Person, chairman of the the city’s Historic Resources Board. Walnut Avenue, which cuts through the city’s historic downtown district, is one of the oldest streets in Huntington Beach, dating back eight decades.
