Sabo, Reds Get Tripled Up by the Expos
There are many ways to lose a game, but the Cincinnati Reds picked a most unusual one Sunday at Montreal.
Trailing, 4-2, in the ninth, the Reds put the first two batters on base and Barry Jones was brought in to face Chris Sabo, the Reds’ hottest hitter.
Sabo banged into a triple play to end the game.
Sabo hit a sharp grounder to third baseman Bret Barberie near the line. He stepped on third, threw to second baseman Delino DeShields, who made a quick pivot and throw to beat Sabo.
“It’s unbelieveable,” Red Manager Lou Piniella said. “I’ve never seen a game end like that.”
