Satellite Contract: Rockwell International Corp.’s Space Systems Division won a $36.3-million contract in August to build a scientific satellite for the Air Force, the company said Monday.
Rockwell will produce the P91-1 satellite over a five-year period at its Seal Beach facility.
Robert G. Minor, president of the division, said the contract was an important win for the unit, which laid off 150 workers in Seal Beach and Downey in February in expectation of fewer numbers of new satellite contracts to bid upon.
The P91-1 satellite will house nine experiments and test new technology during a planned three-year mission to gather data for various government agencies. It is scheduled for launch in the summer of 1995.
