Southwestern Bell to Up Stake in Mexico Phone Company: Southwestern Bell Corp. said it plans to double its stake in Telefonos de Mexico, the national telecommunications company of Mexico. The St. Louis-based company said it will use the option to buy more than 530 million “L” shares of stock for $467.3 million, or about 88 cents a share. The purchase increases Southwestern Bell’s holdings to 10% of the Mexican phone company.
