Dane to Head EC Panel of Central Bank Chiefs: The European Community’s central bank governors elected Erik Hoffmeyer of Denmark their new chairman, replacing Karl Otto Poehl, who stepped down two months ago. Hoffmeyer, 66, head of the Danish central bank since 1965, is the longest-serving central bank governor in the EC. Hoffmeyer will hold the position until the end of 1992, when Poehl’s term would have finished.
