School Poll

Share

In response to your editorial “Could Be an Educational Process” (Aug. 29):

A Lou Harris poll of 2,400 area residents found 68% believe that the schools are doing a poor job in preparing students for the job market. I wonder if Lou Harris or The Times could poll 2,400 teachers (primary and secondary) and ask them what is their opinion as to how parents are preparing their children for school?

Recently (last month) at Valerio Street School the new principal, in a bulletin, asked the teachers to teach or spend some time in instructing the students on their table manners. Are parents responsible for anything any more? I would like to suggest anyone to go to the campuses of the schools in the Los Angeles Unified School District (unannounced) and see what a teacher and an administrator have to contend with on a daily basis.
