Whittaker Buys 3M Unit: 3M Co. says it has sold its Diagnostic Systems unit for an estimated $11 million to Whittaker Bioproducts, a unit of Los Angeles-based Whittaker Corp. 3M’s confirmation of the sale came after Whittaker said it was paying $8 million up-front to buy the business plus a deferred payment of $3.4 million over 10 years. 3M Diagnostic Systems in Santa Clara, Calif., has annual sales of $8 million. It makes and distributes diagnostic test kits for allergies and Lyme disease.
