It must be sandcastle season in Orange County.
Not only is SeaFest sponsoring a contest on Sept. 22 (see accompanying story), but the United Way will be holding its annual competition on Saturday in Seal Beach.
More than 40 teams are expected to take part in the United Way contest, which last year attracted 25,000 spectators. The teams are sponsored by corporations, local agencies and organizations.
As is tradition, the contest kicks off the annual three-month fund-raising campaign for the United Way of Orange County. Last year’s campaign took in $21.4 million; the goal this year is $23 million.
What: United Way of Orange County annual sandcastle contest.
When: Saturday, Sept. 14, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Where: Seal Beach Pier.
Whereabouts: Free parking provided at Rockwell International, Seal Beach Boulevard and Westminster Avenue. Take Seal Beach Boulevard south from the San Diego Freeway.
Wherewithal: Admission is free. A shuttle from Rockwell to the beach is 50 cents.
