Eleven players filed a class-action suit against the NFL, alleging that club owners are fixing salaries during the seven-week exhibition season.
The suit asks for treble damages, which would cost the NFL an estimated $50 million.
It argues that the standard NFL contract calls for veterans to be paid an amount equal to 10% of their salary for training camp. The NFL routinely pays the players $500 to $700 per week, well below the 10% figure.
NFL spokesman Joe Browne called the suit a “publicity stunt.”
