Engineering Center to Be Dedicated at USC
The six-story Hughes Aircraft Electrical Engineering Center, designed as a state-of-the-art research facility, will be dedicated today on the USC campus near downtown Los Angeles.
Hughes contributed $5 million toward construction of the School of Engineering center, seen by Engineering Dean Leonard Silverman as an investment in the nation’s future in a region with the largest concentration of engineers, scientists and technicians in the United States.
Malcolm R. Currie, chairman and chief executive of Hughes Aircraft, cited the long-term relationship between Hughes and USC as an example of cooperation between industry and universities that could give the country an advantage in the global competition for technological leadership.
