Gary Hennessy scored twice on a 13-yard run and a 33-yard interception return to lead Katella to a 24-8 nonleague victory over Magnolia in front of 500 at Glover Stadium.

Hennessy, a senior tailback, opened the scoring for the Knights (1-0) early in the second quarter when he went 13 yards off tackle with 10 minutes 48 seconds remaining to give Katella a 7-0 lead. The touchdown was set up by a muffed punt snap by Magnolia that gave Katella the ball deep in Sentinel territory.

Hennessy’s other touchdown came midway through the third quarter when he picked off an errant Daryl Turner pass and skirted past tacklers to give the Knights a 24-0 lead. Magnolia’s only score came on a three-yard run by Butler McCown.
