Edward James Olmos for Governor?
I am encouraged to see that Olmos has remained true to his vision of community and, through his film “American Me,” is trying to bring attention to the numbers of Latino youth who are caught in a system in which imprisonment or life on the streets appear to be the only options.
If the story is to be told, I’m glad it won’t be sugarcoated, because a “Hollywood production” of the issue would only serve to make the problem of gang participation, and incarceration as the solution, appear to be less than what it is.
Everyone has a stake in the social, moral, emotional and physical development of our youth. The results of neglect are already evident and can only get worse with our ignorance.
