A Guide to the Best of Southern California : EXCURSIONS : Undie Achievers

With all the buying and selling of celebrity castoffs these days, it’s a relief to know that the most intimate of star apparel is suitably and safely enshrined near Hollywood’s Walk of Fame. The Celebrity Lingerie Hall of Fame, in the back of Frederick’s of Hollywood, offers visitors not only a visual history of Fred’s glamorous creations but also a look at some famous, well, undies.
You’ll find objects as old as Ethel Merman’s spacious foundation garment from “No Business Like Show Business” and as new as Madonna’s diminutive black and gold bustier; Judy Garland’s 1943 nightie and Katey Sagal’s ample “Married . . . With Children” bra. And don’t think this is the exclusive domain of women: Racy lace worn by Milton Berle and Tony (“Some Like It Hot”) Curtis are also on display.
The celeb exhibit has remained unchanged since its November, 1989, opening, but Frederick’s promises new inductees are on the way. No one will say who the lucky underwearers will be.
Frederick’s of Hollywood, 6608 Hollywood Blvd., Hollywood; (213) 466-8506.
