By now President Gorbachev has experienced that famous political axiom “today’s friends in politics are tomorrow’s enemies.”
Gorbachev’s closest friends and supporters betrayed him. Politics is no different in the U.S. except we do have constitutional processes which prevent juntas from usurping the political processes.
In the future American and Russian politicians must be wary of friends who speak with split tongues.
