CAMARILLO : City Hall to Be Site of Mall Hearings

Public hearings on a proposed factory outlet mall in Camarillo will be held in November at City Hall, despite earlier concerns that the City Council chambers may be too small for the crowd, officials said Wednesday.

The City Council considered several locations for hearings on the controversial Rancho Camarillo Plaza, including a local high school auditorium and two community centers, Assistant City Manager Larry Davis said.

But council members decided on their Carmen Road chambers because of its familiarity and capability for cable TV broadcasts, Davis said.

“The City Hall seats 260 people plus 50 in the lobby,” Davis said. “That’s only a little less than other locations.”

The exact date of the first hearing on the Sammis Co. project, which is planned for 87 acres on Pleasant Valley Road, has not been decided.

However, it could be scheduled for the council’s regular meeting on either Nov. 6 or Nov. 20, Davis said.
